Day 15 Dinner Debriefing

The taxi gods are smiling on us. Yesterday it took our front desk clerk three tries to find a cab company that had a car available, tonight we had dinner reservations for seven, but when we called at six, no cabs were available until after seven. There was, however, an opportunity to get a cab right away, so we changed our dinner reservation and grabbed the taxi while we could.

Cafe Melange is our preferred restaurant here. Unusually, we ordered the same thing for dinner, veal marsala. Caroline upgraded to the fancy salad, I stuck to the basic version. She had her veal with mashed potatoes, I opted for linguine. Both of us having the same kind of meat made it easy to choose a wine: the meal called out for a light pinot noir. The restaurant did offer a pinot by the glass, but it was very earthy. Instead, I ordered a bottle of Willamette Valley Vineyards, and it was a perfect match. The wine was light, the marsala sauce was sweet, it was all good. Of the many desserts, Caroline chose the pineapple upside-down cake, I had the cheesecake.

The taxi situation had calmed down, and we were able to get a ride home at eight. This was a good thing, as it had begun to rain.
