Okay, that title is misleading. We don’t have plans to do much driving today, beyond getting a hot meal for lunch – we’re both sick of sandwiches. This morning we caught up on laundry and checked on our banking.
Then we cruised down town and had lunch at Bronco Billy’s and did a little shopping before returning to the hotel for a lazy afternoon of hot tub wallowing and napping.
Our most constructive effort today was to make a small revision to our travel plans. After this last lazy day, the original plan called for several days of steady driving. Caroline raised the notion of throwing in an extra day so that we could have one day with less driving. I suggested that instead of adding a stop and changing our route and several hotel reservations, we could just stay a day longer in Missoula, MO. That way, we change only only two hotels: add a second night in Missoula and move Swift Current, SA from Wednesday to Thursday.
So the map doesn’t change, we’ll still be following the same route, but now the plan is:
Tomorrow (unchanged), drive from Sisters, OR to Walla Walla, WA.
Tuesday (unchanged) drive from Walla Walla to Missoula.
Wednesday (revised) hang out in Missoula, take in the Smoke Jumper’s museum, have a last opportunity for shopping. If I remember right, Montana has no sales tax.
Thursday, hit the road hard, running from Missoula, MO to Swift Current, SA.
Friday, hard run home, from Swift Current to Kenora, ON. This gets us to our own home with a weekend to unpack, recuperate and restock the fridge.
